This is the newest model of our professionally engineered, custom made IR board specifically developed to be used with Intel motherboards that are equipped with a CIR (Consumer Infrared Receiver) header. We are the only providers of CIR receivers anywhere. The board is connected to the motherboard with the cable provided and is ready to go. The boards size is so small (1 1/8” W x 1 1/8” L x 3/8” H) that it can be mounted almost anywhere with double stick tape. The CIR comes with a custom cable that is 16" long. The mounting bracket provided can be mounted with double sticktape or you can use 4-40 screws into the threaded holes in the bracket. The bracket comes with the hardware needed to mount the IR receiver to the bracket. Screws are not included to attach the bracket to your case since there are many possible mounting variations.

The sensor on the front of the board must be in the line of sight for the remote to operate. However, only a small hole of about 1/8” is necessary for the receiver to see the remote. As long as the black sensor on the receiver is in that hole you will be able to use your remote up to 30 feet from the receiver.

The unit has been tested extensively on boards running both Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. It will not work with XP. The red LED on the front of the board will only flash when installed on the latest Intel motherboards as the BIOS for these boards has been updated to control the Inteset CIR LED.

"It has been said before, but bears repeating because of how useful the included Consumer Infrared (CIR) header is, putting it on the short list of favorite motherboard features alongside user configurable power LED behavior when in standby. Because the feature is not enabled by default in BIOS, it will need to be enabled after installing a CIR. Then after the Nuvoton (Winbond) drivers are installed it acts as a fully functional Microsoft eHome RC6 IR receiver. This not only frees up a USB port and allows for a cleaner install because the receiver can be mounted inside the chassis, but also includes a feature not supported by the standard USB receivers - wake from off (S5) and hibernate (S4) in addition to standby (S3).

You will have to download the motherboard driver for this unit. It is free on Intel's site or on the CD that comes with your motherboard. The one you want is the Winbond or Nuvoton driver at the Intel Download Center depending on your motherboard. After you download the driver you must activate it in your BIOS.

Plexiglas CIR Window

Clear gray Plexiglas 1" x 5/8" x .060 for use as a window in front of our CIR when user installed in a case. Can be used with the bracket included. Window is attached using clear silicone.
